11 injured in shooting in quiet North Carolina city

A tragic shooting at a house party in Mountain View, a quiet North Carolina community near Hickory, left one person dead and 11 others injured early Sunday morning, June 1. Authorities were called to a home on Walnut Acres Drive around 12:45 a.m., according to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting occurred during a pool party attended by around 100 people, including juveniles. A resident told WBTV that the gunfire seemed random and happened mostly outside. The crime scene spans multiple locations, including inside the home, the front and back yards, and even a neighboring yard.

According to the sheriff’s office, 12 victims have been reported: one deceased, one in critical condition, and several others hospitalized. It remains unclear whether the victims were related or lived at the residence.

Authorities confirmed multiple weapons were involved but have not yet identified the types of firearms used. As of Sunday morning, no arrests had been made, and no suspects had been named.

The investigation is being led by the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office and the Hickory Police Department, with support from special agents of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. Officials are working to determine a motive and identify those responsible.
