A tragedy shook the state of Texas, United States, after a 17-year-old girl died while saving her family during the intense flooding that affected the region in recent days.

The young woman, hailed as a hero for her brave act, managed to open the door of the vehicle in which they were traveling, allowing her parents and younger siblings to escape with their lives. However, she did not survive.

The incident occurred in a rural area near Marble Falls, as the family attempted to cross the Cow Creek Bridge, which was quickly covered by floodwaters due to a sudden surge.

Heavy rains caused an unexpected flood that swept away the family van as they drove through the structure.

The minor was traveling with her parents and younger siblings at the time of the incident. After being swept away by the current, she swam to force open the vehicle door and allow her family to escape.

While her loved ones managed to reach dry land, she was carried away by the waters.

The young woman’s body was found three days later, following an exhaustive search operation involving both local authorities and family members.

The incident comes amid a series of floods that have left more than 100 people dead or missing in Texas, according to official figures provided by state agencies.

This fact highlights the severity of the weather conditions that periodically affect various regions of Texas, as well as the vulnerability of rural communities to extreme natural phenomena.

It also highlights the brave act of a minor who sacrificed her life to save her loved ones, leaving an indelible mark on the local collective memory.
